The Safe Babies Program started in October, 2000 to support the care of babies in foster care. The main objective is to ensure a safe, stable, knowledgeable and nurturing environment for these more vulnerable infants. The babies may have risks such as prematurity, low birth weight, exposure to alcohol, drugs, medications or to communicable diseases such as hepatitis, syphilis or HIV. Safe Babies Foster Parents complete a two day training program to be certified to care for babies under 12 months.
The Safe Babies Coordinator is Madeline Rigg, a Public Health Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health. She works with Foster Parents, MCFD and VACFSS Social Workers and also with the Safe Babies Advisory Committee. Please call Madeline at 604-660-5682 or email her at [email protected]
