The recruitment team invite children in care aged 8-12 yrs, 13-19 yrs, and former youth in care 20-24yrs to participate in a creative writing project.
Participants will be asked to submit a poem they have personally written, on a topic of their choice.
Rachel Rose, Poet Laureate for Vancouver, will award a special prize to the best poem from each age category.
The winner in the 8-12 age category receives a free spot in a creative writers’ camp hosted by the UBC creative writing program called Word Wrestlers ( wordwrestlers.com ). The camp runs either July 25 – 29 or August 8 – 12 .
The winners in the 13-19 and 20-25 age categories will receive an iPad.All of the poems will be collated into a book.
Every child and youth who submits a poem will be invited to the book launch/pizza party celebration, where they will receive a copy of the book of poems and a certificate of appreciation.

As a result, the Foster Parent Recruitment and Training team is looking for individuals who live in Vancouver or Richmond, and are interested in becoming a foster parent for children between the ages of 0 and 12 years.
Important qualities of foster parents are (a) having a good sense of humour, (b) developing a willingness to learn new things, (c) valuing the importance of commitment, and (d) believing in the spirit of team work. In addition, the recruitment team is looking for people who describe themselves as loving, caring, and stable individuals.
